I happily went for my first scan at 14 weeks (a couple of weeks late due to Dewsbury hospital being busy!) As I lay there with my hubby holding my had, I asked 'there is only one in there, isn't there' for the sonographer to say yes! Then I saw my hubby's face drop. Then the lady went 'oh, I've not done that before, there are two in there!' I asked' your joking right? Are you serious etc' and she said 'yes' and that was the start of it.
We were given the scan pics FOC as they said it was a shock and things are going to get expensive! Then ushered out to talk about triple tests etc.
What a shock, we were happily expecting one child one minute and the next two, identical children at that, a ready made family.
Mum thought I was joking when I told her, others were pleased, and one family member knew we were going to tell her it was twins.
Had a great pregnancy, no morning sickness, just a nasty taste in my mouth, but nothing tooty frooties wouldn't sort. I also had a hankering for toast.
Had one hiccup in the pregnancy where my blood pressure was up, but after a morning in the hospital all was well.
At 36 weeks I went fo a scan and check up, think I would be induced the following week, but due to work being done in the OR rooms on the weekend, they wanted me in the next day for induction. At no point was a c section discussed as the babies had been head down from 28 weeks. I was given a sweep and booked in for the next day.
2am the contractions started, by 7 am we were at hospital and by 9 am I was 5 cm dilated, and given an epidural. Then it was 10 pm and I was 10 cm. I was told to move about and when i did baby 1 got into distress. Then my room was filled with people, my medication was upped and when there was talk of moving me to the OR the midwife said there wasn't enough time.
My legs were up, the suction cap was on and the consultant was pulling with all his might to get baby 1 out, then the scissors went in followed by forceps and baby 1 was pulled out. Two nurses were holding my tummy and baby2 to stop him from moving. Then 10 mins later he was born. Both babies were fine, baby boy 1 5lbs 3 oz and baby 2 4lbs and 15oz.
I then started to feel unwell, and my blood pressure dropped, so the staff then had to rush around and ensure I was ok, after about 30 mins I was feeling better and got to hold the boys.
At 2am we were moved to a room on the ward, and then I was left to get on with being a mum. We left the hospital a day later, all well. and that has been the case ever since.
The boys are now 20 months old (how time flies) and I love them to bits, and feel so lucky that I got 2.
