Enjoying my “free” time

The last few months have been hectic. In fact I think hectic is too weak a word to describe the last few months but as my brain is refusing to come up with alternative we will have to settle for hectic.

Yesterday started the 3rd week of my holidays. The first week started very well with me going back to work for the day. There is a little line in my contract that says that despite being term time only I can be called back at the discretion of management. So I went back on the Monday and then on the Thursday. I can’t keep away from the place.

Tuesday was a first for me. Child 3’s school was in need of volunteers for a visit at Leeds United football ground. As I am not into football none of my children were ever likely to go near a football ground unless it was organised by their school. I volunteered and was given a group of 7 children to supervise. After having visited the ground and sat in some rock hard plastic bucket seats, we went back in for a numeracy/football quiz. I can hold my own with numeracy but I know nothing about football. I had to ask for a child to help me. It was a foregone conclusion to say that I did not win the quiz. I was lucky to come on joint 6th place. The day out was fun. The children loved it. I was glad to go back home at 2.30 to put my feet up for a few minutes.

Wednesday: Child 2 was taking her first piano exam and I was being used as a taxi. The exam went well and child 2 has been told today that she passed with a merit.

Thursday back at work, then Friday was the start of operation sleep over. I cleaned the house top to bottom and to this day wonder why as all those children created more mess and food drop than I had previously removed.

2nd week was a bit of a blur. I went back to work on the Monday, had lunch with a friend at some point, got soaked watching child 1 and 2 sports day on another day, then obtained bliss and did nothing for a day. It was fantastic. Between the hours of 9am and 3pm I had been free to do whatever I wanted and I chose wisely to do nothing involving children, household or shopping. I also had my hair cut. I felt so much better after.

Back to this week: I decided at the week-end to make the most of my last “free” week. I spent the day in York with a friend yesterday. It was a very nice day, very sunny, very relaxing and very enjoyable.

Today: I went to see my favourite glassmakers in Pateley Bridge. I love their work. I have ordered my first Christmas presents. Some specially commissioned glasses for my family.

This week is my “me” week. I am meeting friends, having lunches, having some grown up time.

Next week will be full on dealing with a very eager child, and 2 hormonal teenagers (oxymoron I know).

I am going back to making some beaded animals for the PTA Christmas fair. That past time of mine is so relaxing. :)
