Day Off

Hi Guys

What a lovely day off I've had and I haven't felt totally shattered today either. I dropped Alex off at Sports camp and Sam stayed at home with me. We did vica versa last week with Sam going to football camp and Alex staying at home with me during holidays.

Sam wanted to go into town and buy some Gormiti evolution eggs?? Do you know about these things? They are basically plastic toys tucked within a bath bomb type thing that fizzes in the bowl and hey presto! A teeny little blob of plastic to play with.

They come in different colours and when the fizz has stopped the figure is exposed. What an anti-climax!

They have had a couple now. They retail between 5.99 and 7.99 in our town. Luckily- they didn't have the colour he wanted so we went to HMV to see if they had the Clone Wars DVD he had spied.

How daft am I? I didn't have a clue if it was even out or what he was on about exactly.

This is what he wanted.....................

Only a whopping £40 in HMV!!!!!!!!!!! so right beside it we settled on Clone Wars Commando which only had 4 episodes as compared to 22 but came in at more reasonable £9.99.

These kids sure know how to spend  money. He did help push the trolley round Lidls and help bring the shopping in and says I can raid his money box as well! He really wants that first DVD - but at that price????? Thinks I will see if a mate can get it downloads and stick it on my hard disk and play it through the Dvix box me thinks.

So I spent the rest of the day talking to my Mum on the phone - catching up for about an hour. She is eccentric to say the least. She is currently moving into yet another flat and yet again needs curtains, carpets, and white goods. She has mental health problems and refuses to have treatment and one of the problems is that she just ups and leaves - often becoming homeless in the process. Everything gets ditched when she moves and so she has to keep starting up again. My brother and sister don't help her at all and when shes under alot of stress she can move frequently- sometimes staying for a few weeks in a place at a time. Shes not a traveller but moves around without putting roots down. Often she doesn't tell us and contacts us after the event. Nothing we can do can seem to stop it and she will carry on like this for as long as she can physically pack a bag and leave her home. It used to tear me apart but I am getting more used to her ways. She really could end up in a hostel and she has confided to me today that shes been living in a shared house with about 5 other young blokes who all smoke dope and play on playstation games while claiming dole. Still the council have housed her again and it does sound like a fairly decent place- but for how long!

She hates the cold so I offered her a trip to Turkey. She doesn't work and lives off a very meagre state pension and naturally she agreed to come away. We are going next month. However, when she heard I was going again with my husband, 3 kids and my ex and his family (wife and 2 children) she sounded really upset- "why cant i come on that one?" she said. Well apart from the fact it was already booked - thats why!! "But I would have liked to have gone on that one" she said.

Blooming cheek! I'm robust enough to take her remarks- catch me on a bad day and I will tell you shes selfish and self-absorbed but I suppose that a feature of her illness  and her personality. Not once in a whole hour did she ask after the kids or whether I was ok! I truly hope I don't get like that when I'm older.

I've cooked loads today as I have tomorrow off but then start the run of night shifts again. I feel virtuous! I am a domestic goddess

I have made enormous portions of :

Meatballs in bolognaise sauce and pasta bake

Chicken and celery and cheese pasta bake

Beef casserole

So hopefully that should be enough to feed them till I come back from nights. I have of course been sticking to the wonderful Cambridge Diet and I am DETERMINED to get all the extra poundage off me so that when I next feel like a domestic goddess - I also look like one!

Thats gonna me ! NOT!
